Wednesday, March 21
This year we had a total of 93 volunteers13 Dentists; 26 Hygienists; 38 Dental Assistants and 16 IBC Bank volunteers helped with front desk duties. Volunteers came from Austin, Pflugerville, Cedar Park, Buda, Leander, La Grange, San Antonio, Hutto, and San Marcos. This was the first year Georgetown Dental Center participated in the Dental Sealant project and in addition to sealants they provided x-rays and teeth cleaning services. The Northeast Clinic location served 111 children; RBJ served 52 children and Georgetown served 18 children for a total of 181 children. Of the 181 children, 177 actually received sealants. In a period of five hours, 181 children received a free dental exam and a total of 585 sealants were placed on the childrens teeth. ᄍThe estimated cost of services provided per child averages $187.50; therefore, a total of $33,950 was donated in dental services.

Aug 15, 2006 Playing the Health Insurance Gamble - Business owners, workers forgo expensive coverage

A growing number of small business owners and full-time workers make up about 80 percent of America's 46 million people without health insurance.

The number of people without such insurance increased 11.2 percent from 2001 to 2004.

Though California beats Texas in absolute numbers, the Lone Star state ranks No. 1 for the percentage of its population lacking health insurance, with one out of every four Texans living without coverage. That translates into 5 million people without insurance in Texas--an estimated 250,000 in Travis County alone.
